Job Title Litigation Solicitor Location Dorchester Contract Type Temporary (3 months) Salary 5055 per hour (DOE) Hours 37 hours per week About the Role This role sits within Dorset providing legal advice and representation in a range of contentious matters on behalf of the Council. Responsibilities
Provide clear accurate and timely legal advice to Dorset Council services and officers on litigation and dispute resolution matters. Prepare and conduct litigation on behalf of the Council including case management and advocacy where appropriate. Draft and review legal documents statements and correspondence related to litigation enforcement and dispute resolution. Advise on risk management pre-action protocols and settlement options. Represent the Council at court hearings tribunals and internal panels as required. Liaise with and instruct Counsel or external solicitors where appropriate. Monitor and advise on changes in legislation case law and legal procedure affecting the Councils operations. Work collaboratively within the Legal Services team and contribute to knowledge sharing training and professional development initiatives.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Qualified Lawyer Barrister or Legal Executive. Degree-level education. Post-qualification experience in litigation or dispute resolution. Strong legal research drafting and advocacy skills. Excellent communication analytical and negotiation abilities. Ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines. Flexible and team-oriented approach. Commitment to equality diversity and high professional standards. Ability to meet the travel requirements of the role. Experience working within a local authority legal department. Knowledge of Local Government Law Civil Procedure and Public Law. Familiarity with local government governance and decision-making processes.
