Legal Counsel 12 month FTC – maternity leave
London, Hybrid working
6+ PQE
SSQ is partnering with a purpose-led financial services organisation operating in the insurance market and the public sector. The organisation plays a critical role within its sector and works closely with government and industry stakeholders. They are seeking a 6 PQE Legal Counsel to join their in-house legal function on a maternity cover basis.
Reporting into senior members of the legal team, this role will provide solutions-focused legal advice to senior stakeholders and business teams across the organisation and its subsidiaries. The role offers the opportunity to support on a broad range of commercial, regulatory and strategic matters in a highly collaborative environment.
Key responsibilities
- Supporting procurement and contracting activity, including drafting and reviewing third-party and outsourced services agreements.
- Advising on key contractual frameworks with government and industry counterparties, including standard-form agreements.
- Providing legal support on risk-mitigation and counter-terrorism related projects delivered in partnership with public sector bodies.
- Conducting legal research and preparing briefings on issues including competition, subsidy control, public law, procurement, IP and commercial matters.
- Managing external counsel where specialist advice is required.
- Supporting special projects and strategic initiatives as required.
- Assisting with the identification and management of legal and regulatory risk across the organisation.
- Deputising for senior legal colleagues when required and attending internal and external stakeholder meetings.
Candidate profile
- Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with 6+ PQE (or equivalent).
- Background in a leading law firm, insurer/reinsurer, or central government body
- Strong grounding in contract law, ideally within insurance or reinsurance contexts.
- Broad legal experience spanning commercial, regulatory, governance, competition, procurement and data protection matters.
