Learning Support Assistant
- Hourly Rate: £15.55 (PAYE) - £17.60 (umbrella)
- Location: South East London
- Job Type: Part-time (26 hours per week, Monday-Thursday)
- Contract End Date: 27/03/2026 (with potential extension)
We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to provide 1-to-1 support for a learner with challenging behaviour. This role is crucial in facilitating access to learning programmes and college services for young people and adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
Day-to-day of the role:
- Assist in the educational and social development of learners under the direction of support managers and curriculum team leaders.
- Support the development of self-advocacy and independent learning skills of learners.
- Contribute to the assessment of students’ learning and personal progression, working with relevant staff to develop person-centred support plans.
- Provide support and assistance to learners for their personal care, safety, and well-being.
- Anticipate barriers to learning and participation, developing intervention strategies to minimise difficulties.
- Ensure learners are able to access and fully utilise college support services and participate productively in college life.
- Manage and ensure the availability and operation of specialist equipment, assistive technologies, and/or facilities as necessary.
- Support learners with additional physical/medical needs as required.
- Report any mobility problems and other safety issues in line with college health and safety guidelines.
- Assist in the review of learners' progress, ensuring individual support plans are updated and teaching staff are informed of any barriers to learning.
- Liaise with external agencies such as parents and key workers, forwarding information to support managers.
- Attend meetings as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in supporting individuals with SEN, particularly those with challenging behaviour.
- Strong understanding of the educational and social development needs of learners.
- Ability to work effectively under the guidance of support managers and curriculum team leaders.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in managing and operating specialist educational equipment and technologies.
- Commitment to the personal care, safety, and well-being of learners.
- A current and valid C&A DBS check.
