Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – SEN & SEMH

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistants to work across a range of primary, secondary, and specialist provisions in Wigan and Bolton. These roles involve supporting pupils aged 3–19 with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The Role:
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students both academically and emotionally. You may be working on a 1:1 basis or with small groups, helping to create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment tailored to individual needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN and SEMH needs
Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities
Support students with behavioural challenges, using de-escalation techniques where required
Help implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies
Encourage positive social interaction and emotional regulation
Support with personal care where necessary (depending on the setting)
Promote safeguarding and wellbeing at all times
Requirements:

Experience working with children or young people (school, care, youth work or similar)
Understanding of SEN, including Autism, ADHD, and SEMH needs
Calm, patient, and resilient approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners
Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
Desirable:

Team Teach or other behaviour management training
Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE, NVQ, or degree in education/psychology)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
