Hybrid Working (3 days in office) Salary: Up to £58,500 + Benefits

An established and growing engineering business is seeking two experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineers to lead the delivery of complex, bespoke machinery projects. This is a key role combining technical excellence with team leadership and project oversight.
\n\n The Role \n
This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of full lifecycle design projects while leading and mentoring a multidisciplinary engineering team. You will be responsible for delivering innovative, high-quality solutions from concept through to manufacture and commissioning.
\n\n Key Responsibilities \n
Leadership & Management
\n
\n Lead and support cross-functional engineering teams
\n
Set clear objectives and provide ongoing performance feedback
\n
Promote collaboration and effective communication across departments
\n
\n
Project Management
\n
\n Manage projects from initial concept through to completion
\n
Coordinate timelines, resources, and budgets across multiple projects
\n
Ensure delivery to agreed deadlines, cost targets, and quality standards
\n
\n
Design & Engineering
\n
\n Develop detailed designs for complex mechanical systems
\n
Conduct simulations, feasibility studies, and risk assessments
\n
Drive design optimisation with a focus on cost and sustainability
\n
Oversee prototyping, testing, and validation processes
\n
Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Value Engineering principles
\n
Produce designs in line with ISO standards
\n
\n
Collaboration
\n
\n Work closely with internal teams including production, electrical/software, quality, and aftersales
\n
Liaise with external suppliers and partners to resolve technical challenges
\n
\n
Technical Expertise
\n
\n Stay up to date with industry developments and best practices
\n
Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations
\n
\n
Documentation & Reporting
\n
\n Maintain detailed design and project documentation
\n
Report progress and key updates to senior stakeholders
\n
\n\n About You \n
\n HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
\n
Experience in bespoke machinery or special-purpose equipment design
\n
Proven track record in project delivery
\n
Commissioning and site experience
\n
Strong SolidWorks skills (concept, layout, and detailed design to ISO standards)
\n
Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities
\n
