We are currently recruit for a Laboratory Technician to join a busy and growing Testing department, working within a specialist Hardlines laboratory based in Leigh.
This role is essential in ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of a wide range of consumer products through accurate and timely testing. You will support testing across product categories such as toys, electrical accessories, furniture, DIY tools, kitchenware, and other durable consumer goods.
You will follow established methodologies, operate specialised equipment, and ensure all results are recorded to the highest standard within a fast-paced laboratory environment.
Working Hours: Monday to Friday 9am to 5 pm
Pay Rate: £12.77 per hour

Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out testing in line with customer requirements, company procedures, and accreditation standards
* Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), recognised test methods (e.g., EN, ISO, ASTM), and internal quality protocols
* Accurately record, analyse, and input data
* Ensure all work meets required turnaround times and quality standards
* Manage samples effectively, including booking in and tracking
* Maintain laboratory equipment checks and environmental records (e.g. temperature logs)
* Adhere strictly to health & safety protocols, including PPE and safe handling of materials
* Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment
* Support internal teams, including Customer Service, to deliver excellent client service
* Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues and clients
* Provide feedback to senior technicians and management regarding workload, issues, or improvements
* Participate in training, quality systems, and proficiency testing schemes
* Support other departments when required
Key Relationships:
- Work collaboratively with internal departments and external stakeholders
- Build strong working relationships to support effective information sharing
- Operate both independently and as part of a team, with support from senior technicians and line management
Skills & Experience Required:
* Good general education, particularly in Science, English, and Mathematics
* Strong IT skills, including MS Word and Excel
* High attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability
* Ability to understand technical instructions, standards, and documentation
* Comfortable working in a fast-paced, KPI-driven environment
* Strong organisational skills and manual dexterity
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience working in a UKAS accredited laboratory
- Background in consumer goods testing or production
- Basic knowledge of test methods and product compliance standards
