Our client’s technical teams work at the forefront of materials science and electrochemical innovation, contributing to a rapidly evolving programme focused on next-generation energy solutions.


They are seeking a Laboratory Technician to join the team, this role supports a wide range of laboratory activities, contributing to material preparation, cell assembly, testing programmes and day-to-day laboratory operations. You will work closely with scientists, engineers and technical leaders. The ideal candidate for this role will have experience with wet chemistry techniques in the lab.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support laboratory activities assigned by the Head of Lab Operations
  • Prepare and cure polymer membrane materials in line with defined SOPs
  • Assemble electrochemical cells and cell stacks, from small-scale units to mechanically assembled stacks
  • Conduct testing of electrochemical cells using battery and cell-testing equipment following set protocols
  • Maintain high standards of health & safety and laboratory housekeeping, contributing to a positive safety culture
  • Check, calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment, reporting issues promptly
  • Monitor laboratory stock levels, assist with ordering and receive materials into the inventory system
  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of laboratory processes and equipment, including maintenance and fault reporting


Person Specification

  • Level 3 qualification (A-Level, NVQ) or higher in a science or engineering discipline; Level 2 with strong laboratory experience considered
  • Experience with wet chemistry techniques and/or analytical equipment (FTIR, UV-Vis, TGA) is desirable
  • Experience calibrating or validating laboratory equipment or materials
  • Methodical approach to assembly, materials preparation and testing
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and a good understanding of scientific principles
  • Understanding of laboratory health & safety, 5S, and continuous improvement principles
  • Experience in a project-based R&D environment is advantageous
