What is Publishing Development – and why does it matter?
Publishing Development is the department at Frontiers you’ll be joining as a Journal Specialist. It plays a central role in shaping the future of scientific publishing. Our team works closely with editors and researchers to build strong journal communities, launch impactful article collections (Research Topics), and ensure each specialty section reaches its full potential. It’snot just about publishing- it’sabout driving progress, fostering collaboration, and supporting our mission of open, accessible science.
What you will be doing:
As aJournal Specialist, you’ll be at the heart of our publishing department- curating, connecting, and powering scientific progress. You will:
- Lead: Manage the full journey of article collections (Research Topics), from concept to publication
- Engage: Build lasting relationships with editors and researchers, champion our journals, and foster trust in the academic community
- Grow: Drive your assigned Specialty Sections to field leadership through strategic, data-informed initiatives
- Elevate: Share insights, report progress, and participate in training to help your team continually excel
- Connect: Conduct outreach calls and confidently engage in cold-call-style conversations
- Support: Enhance the author experience by collecting feedback and driving process improvements
- Strengthen: Review editorial board composition and recruit new experts to expand our scholarly network
About you:
- Experienced insalesor business development, with a knack for results
- Capable ofmanaging high volumesof work confidently and efficiently
- Energetic, enthusiastic, and motivated by ambitious goals
- An excellentrelationship-builderwho thrives in a team
- Entrepreneurial: You see opportunities and act on them
