Berks Packing is a 3rd family-owned and operated meat processor facility located in Reading, Pennsylvania. We have a long-standing tradition of providing excellent product quality and customer service. Berks has been a family favorite for over 89 years!
Berks Packing has an immediate need for a Purchasing and Inventory Control Manager. Under general direction of Director of Operations, the Purchasing and Inventory Control Manager is a member of Berks Packing management team, who provides strategic input, makes recommendations, and assists with establishing policy. Plans, directs, and coordinates the overall purchasing and inventory control activities of the Company. Duties include providing leadership to staff; managing purchasing and inventory control policies, procedures, and operations; Effectively develops and implements department systems that achieve efficient and economical results.
Key responsibilities include:
Purchases materials, dry goods, supplies, and parts for the Company. Maintains knowledge of trends, prices, buyers, and delivery conditions to anticipate future material availability; directs purchasing programs accordingly. Develops and maintains ERP purchasing and inventory control methodologies and procedures to dovetail into MRP and production requirements for consistent operational support. Develops and maintains inventory databases for materials and dry goods. Negotiates and completes contracts with vendors for optimal cost and delivery times. Reviews purchase orders and contracts for compliance with Company policies. Communicates with suppliers to resolve issues that may arise regarding delivery, quality, price, or conditions of sale. Develops and implements policies and procedures related to purchasing and inventory control with an overall goal to maximize efficiency and optimize workflows. Collaborates with Sales, Customer Service, and Logistics Departments to maximize efficiency within the purchasing and inventory control department. Performs other duties as assigned.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and Sage X3 ERP Software (or equivalent)
Bachelor's degree in Business or related field with emphasis in purchasing and/or inventory control management, required. At least five years of buying or purchasing experience required with supervisory experience . Experience within a USDA meat plant and/or manufacturing experience, not required but helpful.
