Job Description

An well performing special school is seeking an experienced Interim Deputy Headteacher to support the Headteacher with operational leadership.

This is a hands-on senior leadership role within a complex behavioural environment. The school supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, alongside additional SEND profiles. A visible, confident and relational leadership style is essential.

The Role

  • Hands on leadership role
  • Oversight of assessment and data
  • Daily staffing and operational coordination
  • Line management of pastoral and teaching staff
  • Behaviour and culture leadership
  • Supporting a trauma-informed approach
  • Working closely with the Headteacher to maintain stability and standards

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experienced Deputy Headteacher, Headteacher or senior leader within SEMH, alternative provision or specialist settings
  • Strong background in behaviour leadership and safeguarding
  • Confident operating in high-challenge environments
  • Experience overseeing assessment, data and school improvement
  • Able to integrate quickly and provide stability during a transitional period
