Salary: £40,984 per annum
Location: Hybrid (based in Cambridge, UK)

Overview
Our client is seeking two Inspectors of Ancient Monuments to join a multidisciplinary team advising on a diverse and historically rich collection of archaeological sites across the East of England. This includes prehistoric locations, monastic ruins, military heritage, garden archaeology, and coastal sites. The successful candidates will contribute to the sustainable management of the historic environment in alignment with national policy and statutory frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on Scheduled Monument Consent and planning applications, including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects.
- Assess and advise on changes to scheduled monuments and archaeological landscapes.
- Collaborate with local authorities, heritage stakeholders, and private owners to ensure effective conservation and sustainable development.
- Support grant programmes and project initiatives related to the management of the historic environment.
- Participate in community engagement, site inspections, and represent the organization in planning and public consultations.
Candidate Profile
- Strong knowledge of English archaeology and the techniques used in the study and conservation of archaeological sites.
- Familiarity with scheduled monument legislation, planning archaeology, and relevant statutory and policy frameworks.
- Analytical and methodical approach to evaluating planning proposals.
- Excellent negotiation, influencing, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage site visits, including physically demanding locations.
- Willingness to attend occasional evening or weekend community or planning meetings.
- Ability to travel regularly to remote sites, some without public transport access.
- Comfortable with site conditions including scaffolding and confined spaces.
