Location: Crawley
Job Type: Full-time / Permanent
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 5:00pm
Flexibility: Night shifts (7:30pm – 5:00am) and overtime as required
Salary: £30,000-£36,000

Job Summary
As a Smart Building Infrastructure Technician, you will be based at Gatwick Airport, working as part of a dedicated on-site team responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of advanced smart building technologies across the estate.
This role requires strong technical expertise in copper and fibre network infrastructure, alongside a willingness to develop skills across a range of smart technologies including Audio-Visual, Electronic Security, IoT, and wired/wireless networks.
You will play a key role in delivering projects on time and within budget, maintaining high technical standards, and ensuring compliance with Health & Safety regulations. Delivering excellent customer service and accurately interpreting client requirements will be central to your success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
ICT Infrastructure (Copper & Fibre)
- Install, terminate, and test copper (CAT5e/6/6A), fibre optic (OS1/2 & OM3/4/5), and voice (CW1308) cabling.
- Install and test cabling for Electronic Security and Audio-Visual systems.
- Perform testing using Fluke equipment and Linkware software, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Smart Building Systems & Technology
- Build and install telecommunications cabinets (pre-built and flat-pack).
- Install containment systems including tray, basket, trunking, and conduit.
- Install end-point devices such as CCTV cameras, access control systems, Wi-Fi/mobile access points, IoT sensors, and AV equipment.
- Install and configure network equipment including servers, switches, routers, and controllers.
- Carry out system patching and infrastructure setup.
Maintenance & Fault Finding
- Support commissioning, servicing, and decommissioning activities.
- Diagnose and repair faults across network infrastructure and associated systems.
- Assist with equipment relocation and upgrades.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records and provide certification documentation.
- Report progress and escalate issues using internal systems and processes.
Health & Safety
- Adhere to RAMS and all on-site Health & Safety regulations.
- Work from technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Ensure personal and team compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
Person Specification
Knowledge
- Understanding of IT network architecture, cabling systems, and testing standards (e.g. BSEN 50346).
- Knowledge of access control, CCTV systems, and containment installation.
- Awareness of IoT technologies and emerging smart building trends.
- Understanding of health and safety risks, including working at height regulations.
- Familiarity with equipment racks and cabinet assembly.
- Appreciation of accurate documentation and project handover requirements.
Skills
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and general IT systems.
- Ability to follow technical plans and installation processes.
- Skilled in interpreting drawings and installing infrastructure systems.
- Experience using testing equipment such as OTDR and Fluke DTX 5000.
- Competent working at height (MEWPs, access towers) and in confined spaces safely.

Qualifications
Essential:
- Valid ECS/CSCS Card
- Relevant certification (e.g. CNet CNCI®, CNIT®, BICSI Installer Level 2/3 or equivalent)
- Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable:
- First Aid qualification
- GCSEs (including Maths and English)
- IPAF or PASMA certification
Experience
Essential:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role
- Hands-on experience installing copper and fibre ICT systems
- Exposure to AV, Electronic Security, IoT, and network infrastructure
Desirable:
- Experience working in critical infrastructure environments (e.g. airports or transport hubs)
- Containment installation experience (conduit, tray, basket, PVC/metal systems)
