SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Information and Technology Manager/Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Colleges information technology systems to ensure that students, faculty, and staff are equipped with the tools and support they need. This position provides strategic leadership in the planning, development, and implementation of a comprehensive, college-wide IT framework that supports the goals of the IT Division and aligns with Iisavik Colleges institutional priorities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees daily IT operations, including network infrastructure, servers, telecommunications, and user support to ensure system availability and efficiency.
Manages and maintains all college-wide IT systems, including SIS, LMS, security systems, A/V systems, and related services.
Implements and enforces IT security policies, disaster recovery, and data backup procedures to protect institutional data and infrastructure.
Leads the planning, execution, and management of IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and new technology implementations.
Develops and maintains a comprehensive IT framework that supports strategic goals and operational effectiveness across the college.
Maintain the safety and security of internal and external IT systems.
Supervises IT staff, manages performance, and ensures team goals are met through effective leadership and coordination.
Analyzes technology needs, usage patterns, and training requirements; develops and delivers training for faculty, staff, and students.
Oversees the Help Desk system, ensuring timely response and resolution to technical support requests and incident escalations.
Manages IT asset inventory, procurement, budgeting, and vendor relationships to support cost-effective and timely delivery of services.
Performs regular system evaluations, including software upgrades, security assessments, and documentation updates.
Advises on and recommends technology solutions, software, and vendors to enhance institutional services and stability.
Develops and maintains IT policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with organizational, legal, and security standards.
Lead the Technology Committee to collaborate with departments and stakeholders to identify technological needs and align IT solutions with instructional and administrative goals.
Engages in multicultural workplace activities, including participating in Iupiaq cultural practices and supporting an inclusive environment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Knowledge of SIS and LMS platforms, Google GSuite, Microsoft Office 365, OneDrive, Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Experience Supporting Remote Learning Technologies.
Demonstrated knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and compliance with applicable federal regulations, including HIPAA, FERPA, and related standards.
Experience with current industry technologies, Windows Server operations, VoIP telecommunication technologies, and the operations and maintenance of VMWare.
Knowledge of basic SQL operations (database backup and restore), network management systems and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, Active Directory, DHCP, SSH, SNMP, LAN, WAN, etc.), Juniper network core to edge: switches, controllers, as well as firewalls, and VPN solutions.
Strong understanding of both the theoretical principles and practical applications of project management.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate with customers and vendors to identify and resolve functional and technical issues.
Ability to set direction and define strategic priorities for the IT infrastructure function.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
Experience providing on call networking and computer services.
Demonstrated organizational and project management skills.
Ability to work a flexible work schedule and travel periodically.
Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iupiat culture, , values, and traditions.
Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
Ability to interpret and represent College actions and Western institutions to the North Slope community.
Ability to support Iisavik Colleges mission.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/EXPERIENCE [Required]:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science Management, Computer or Business Information Systems; Microcomputer Technology; Information Technology; Desktop Technology; or a closely related field .
Minimum of three (3) years of technical experience required, providing user support services in a variety of areas to include applications development, network, and PC support services.
Minimum of two (2) years of proven leadership and professional experience in a supervisory role.
Valid drivers license.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING []:
Masters degree or equivalent in Business Information Systems or Computer Science, Cybersecurity
Project Management Certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, or Agile/Scrum certification)
Experience in Higher Education IT Management.
