About the job

We are recruiting for a paralegal in the injury and medical claims team. You will play a crucial role in supporting a small but well-established, specialised, Tier 1 legal directory team handling clinical/medical negligence claims, in which patients allege harm due to substandard medical care.


Job Responsibilities:

You will assist in all aspects of a busy and interesting caseload to include:

  • Meeting with new clients to discuss their case and their concerns to support them through the litigation process.
  • Conducting initial case assessments and client interviews to gather relevant information and documentation and taking instructions.
  • Preparing funding and costs documentation.
  • Visiting witnesses, note-taking and drafting witness statements for review and further discussion.
  • Collating and reviewing medical records from various sources to include GPs, treating hospitals and other medical providers.
  • Instructing a range of experts, to include liability medical experts and quantum medical and non-medical experts throughout the claim.
  • Attending conferences with Counsel, note taking, reporting on next steps and conducting follow-up tasks.
  • Organising other items of disclosure clearly and methodically for reference throughout the case.
  • Preparing for Court hearings and trials, attending either alongside Counsel or your supervising Partner, note-taking and conducting follow-up tasks.
  • Regular contact with clients in setting up medical assessments and ensuring their safe travel to and from appointments.
  • Liaising with case managers to assist with the provision of timely and high-quality rehabilitation after serious injury.
  • Supporting clients with referrals for benefits advice to ensure their maximum entitlement and setting up of personal injury trusts to safeguard damages.
  • All aspects of the costs recovery process.
  • All aspects of litigation file management.
  • Assisting in the presentation of work in department and team meetings.


Job skills and qualifications:

  • A law degree, or equivalent experience in a legal environment, is preferred.
  • Must demonstrate a mature and empathetic approach to seriously injured clients who may have suffered trauma or distress.
  • Must be well organised, use initiative, prioritise appropriately, show attention to detail, manage your own workload and meet deadlines.
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills (be respectful, positive, articulate, professional and sympathetic).
  • Must adopt a “can-do” approach, show commercial awareness and represent the department and firm appropriately.
  • Must be reliable, show commitment and be a supportive team player.
  • Must reflect the firm’s culture in your presentation internally and externally.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency with case management systems and standard office software.


Future Progression:

  • It is possible to progress within the firm and undertake additional qualifications to become a solicitor or a legal executive.
