We are looking for a skilled and motivated ILS Engineer on a Contractor-basis (inside IR35), based at our Gateshead site with a hybrid work arrangement: 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.

This role supports logistics and sustainment activities for cutting-edge naval programmes. The engineer will work with multidisciplinary teams to manage ILS content, ensuring compliance with contract requirements.

All candidates must be eligible for Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) screening and may need Security Clearance (SC) depending on project needs.

What you will be doing

• Review customer ILS requirements and support sales and estimating teams during the bid phase.
• Serve as reliability and maintainability focal within the engineering team.
• Develop ILS strategies to ensure requirements are effectively planned, resourced, and implemented.
• Create and manage reliability analysis data and documentation, including FMECA, MTBF/MTTR, RBD/FTA, spare parts, and lifecycle cost estimation.
• Manage NATO Codification activities per contract requirements.
• Prepare supportability documentation such as Supportability Case Reports, Availability, Reliability and Maintainability Reports, maintenance manuals, and training materials.
• Liaise with customers and third-party ILS specialists.
• Perform additional tasks as delegated by the Engineering Manager.

We think you should have

• A degree or HND/HNC with relevant practical experience (naval/marine background desirable).
• Experience with systems engineering processes, product development, and lifecycle support.
• Knowledge of ILS standards like Def Stan 00-600, ASD S3000L, JSP 886, Def Con 117, and understanding of customer environments.
• Experience working with technical publications, including ASD S1000D.
• Experience with NATO Codification and spares modelling.
• Proficiency with reliability modelling software such as ReliaSoft XFMEA and BlockSim.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for stakeholder interaction.
• Flexibility and adaptability to changing requirements.
• Willingness to travel occasionally within the UK and possibly overseas.
