The Opportunity


We are seeking a skilled HVAC Engineer to join the Vertex team. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out scheduled preventative maintenance, responding to reactive maintenance requests, and supporting project-related work across our facilities. The role will focus on ensuring that Vertex buildings, structures, and mechanical systems are maintained to the highest standards, proactively minimising downtime while working within agreed time and cost constraints. The position will also involve providing technical support and advice to ensure the continued efficiency and reliability of our mechanical infrastructure.


Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. The role will require attendance at the London Paddington office on a fortnightly basis, as well as one Saturday per month to support operational requirements.


What You’ll Be Doing

Health & Safety

  • Support the Facilities Manager (FM) in promoting and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment, fostering a positive risk management culture across the site.
  • Review relevant codes of practice and operational procedures periodically, advising the FM of any recommended updates in line with best practice or statutory requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, as well as company policies and procedures, including (but not limited to) risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work, accident and incident reporting, and contractor management processes.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of current health and safety legislation and ensure all work activities are carried out in accordance with statutory requirements and Vertex health and safety standards.
  • Promote safe working practices and ensure all activities are completed in line with company safety procedures.

Technical

  • Maintain a clear understanding of the organisation’s operational objectives and ensure that maintenance activities support the effective management of key assets.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in line with agreed schedules and service level agreements to ensure optimal performance of building systems.
  • Respond to reactive maintenance tasks as delegated by the Facilities Manager, proactively identifying opportunities to address defects and minimise system downtime.
  • Liaise and collaborate with specialist contractors to ensure maintenance activities are carried out safely and effectively.
  • Provide recommendations to improve system performance, operational efficiency, and maintenance processes where appropriate.
  • Ensure all contractors working on site comply with T-SQUARED and Vertex operational and safety guidelines.
  • Respond to site emergencies as directed and support the resolution of technical issues affecting building operations.
  • Prepare and complete dilapidation reports, including budget estimates and prioritised action plans where required.
  • Maintain familiarity with all plant and building systems, including their operation, utilisation, and performance tolerances.
  • Stay up to date with relevant industry developments, technologies, and best practices, making recommendations where appropriate to improve system performance or introduce new equipment.
  • Support the efficient and cost-effective maintenance of building systems, including heating, ventilation, air handling, lifts, building fabric, and associated service contracts.
  • Monitor and review contractor performance to ensure work is completed to the required quality and compliance standards.
  • Respond to technical queries and requests from the client in a timely and professional manner.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and business partners to support operational objectives.
  •  Carry out practical isolations, repairs, and installations where appropriately qualified and competent to do so.
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels of consumable spares to ensure maintenance activities can be completed without delay.


What We Are Looking For


  • Qualified in an HVAC Mechanical discipline.
  • A detailed knowledge of electrical and mechanical services in building.
  • Working knowledge of building construction techniques.
  • Proven experience in working as part of a multi skilled maintenance team with the ability to set and meet deadlines.
  • Experience of working in a dynamic, fast growing and demanding environment, with the ability to quickly resolve business issues to maintain creditability.
  • Computer literacy in all standard office packages and experience of operating Preventative Planned Maintenance Systems.
  • Relevant safety training, and a working knowledge of health and safety legislation with practical experience in the implementation of procedures.
  • Working knowledge of related legislation
