Job Description
HR Advisor – 6 Month Initial FTC
Hybrid in York
Potential to Go Permanent
£36,000 – £38,000 per annum
Remit
Compass Associates are proud to be partnering with a specialist healthcare provider in their search for an Interim HR Advisor to join one of their hospital sites in the York area. The facility has recently expanded its services to include additional specialist care provisions, creating the need for further on-site HR support. This role will focus on embedding processes, managing employee relations, and equipping managers with the skills to manage HR matters effectively.
The Role
Reporting to the UK HR Director, with on-site support from the Hospital Director, the HR Advisor will be the first point of contact for all employee relations matters on site. You will manage sickness absence, disciplinary and grievance processes, ensure compliance with policies and procedures, and advise managers to embed best practice in line with employment legislation.
This is a hands-on position where you will oversee induction and probation processes, manage HR reporting and audits, and ensure accurate use of the PeopleHR system. You will work closely with managers to educate and equip them to handle HR matters independently, while escalating complex cases where necessary.
This position is full-time, based at the hospital site Monday to Friday, with the potential for one day per week remote working for the right candidate. The initial contract is six months, with the potential to extend or become permanent depending on business needs and performance.
Location
York area - easily accessible from the outskirts of the city, with on-site parking available.
Essential Criteria
- Significant employee relations experience, including managing cases from start to finish and acting as a panel member in hearings.
- Strong understanding of HR policies, employment law, and best practice.
- Confident working autonomously in a standalone HR role, while collaborating with a wider remote HR team.
- Ability to influence and educate managers, with excellent stakeholder management skills.
- Competent in HR reporting, KPI analysis, and use of HR systems (PeopleHR experience advantageous).
- Flexible, confident, and resilient, with the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
The Candidate
The successful candidate will be a seasoned HR professional, confident in handling a variety of ER cases and proactive in identifying and addressing process gaps. You will be highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities. The role will suit someone who enjoys being visible on site, building strong relationships, and taking ownership of HR delivery within a supportive but lean team structure.
Interview Process
This is a 2-stage interview process. Prior to submission you will undergo a screening interview with consultant Isobel. Followed by:
- Pre-screening call with the Recruitment Business Partner.
- Face-to-face interview with the UK HR Director and Hospital Director.
