Hosting Technical Services Owner
New Today
About the role
We’re looking for a strategic and people-focused leader to shape the future of Hosting at the Bank of England. As our new Hosting Technical Service Owner, you’ll lead a large, unified team responsible for both on-premise and cloud services. You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the performance, reliability, and evolution of the Bank of England’s most critical technology platforms, while fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture. This is a Head of Division (HoD) level role, reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer.
You’ll lead the development and execution of a unified Hosting Strategy that brings together the Bank of England’s on-premise, cloud, and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platforms into a cohesive, modern ecosystem. A key focus will be delivering a centralised, consistent, and simplified vending model that enables teams across the organisation to access hosting services efficiently and securely. This includes driving improvements in service catalogue design, automation, and self‑service capabilities.
This is a unique opportunity to lead a transformation that not only modernises our hosting landscape but also underpins all of the Bank’s most critical platforms and services and platforms. Your leadership will ensure these essential services are resilient, performant, and future ready.
You’ll also play a key role in enabling the Bank’s adoption of cutting‑edge technologies, including artificial intelligence, large language models, and robotics. In this context, robotics refers to the automation of infrastructure and operational processes - such as provisioning, patching, monitoring, and scaling — to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and accelerate delivery. Your work will ensure that our hosting capabilities are robust and adaptable enough to support the next generation of digital services.
A Day in the Role
Your day might begin with a team stand‑up at 10am, allowing for a flexible start. You could be joining from our Leeds office, with colleagues dialling in from London or working remotely. You’ll review overnight service performance, ensure critical systems are running smoothly, and collaborate with product teams on upcoming cloud migrations or AI‑enabled service enhancements.
Later, you might meet with vendors to discuss service improvements, or work with your leadership team to shape the next phase of our Hosting Strategy. You’ll also have time to mentor team members, explore new technologies, and contribute to strategic planning. Every day brings a mix of operational oversight and forward‑thinking leadership, all within a supportive and inclusive environment.
Role Requirements
Perhaps you’ve led large‑scale hosting teams or driven cloud and AI adoption programmes. Or maybe you’re passionate about building inclusive, high‑performing teams and want to shape the future of Hosting at the Bank of England. If you’re excited by the opportunity to lead a critical function and make a lasting impact, we’d love to hear from you.

We are interested in hearing from candidates who have the following capabilities:

Up‑to‑date knowledge of industry trends in cloud services, including cloud‑native principles, containers, microservices, and CI/CD pipelines
Familiarity with next‑generation storage solutions and software‑defined networking technologies
Experience embedding agile delivery methodologies and DevOps practices across hosting teams
Proficiency in scripting and automation using tools such as Python, PowerShell, or Terraform
Awareness of AI and machine learning infrastructure requirements, including support for large language models and robotics platforms
A commitment to inclusive leadership and creating a culture where everyone can thrive

Experience working in financial services or regulated environments
Familiarity with product and platform‑based operating models
Relevant certifications (e.g. Azure/AWS/GCP, ITIL, TOGAF)
Experience with infrastructure‑as‑code and cloud governance frameworks
