In this role you will assess and coach apprentices across hospitality programmes, ensuring progress toward timely completion and End Point Assessment (EPA). Alongside this, you will champion the growth of the area's commercial profile, promoting the restaurant, salons, and adult training opportunities, while engaging employers to strengthen work placements and apprenticeship uptake.This is a hands-on role combining assessment, coaching, and commercial development, ensuring learners gain real industry experience in environments that mirror professional practice.The role will also deliver the BIIAB Personal Licence Qualification and utilise this to enhance the college's offer to employers and adult learners.Job title: Hospitality Assessor and Commercial Devolpment Lead Permanent, Colchester campus About the role:As part of our Hospitality team, you will play a key role in supporting and developing apprentices to achieve their full potential. You will assess and coach learners against industry standards, helping them build the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required for success in their chosen careers. Through professional observations, progress reviews, and structured assessments, you will guide apprentices towards timely completion, Gateway readiness, and End-Point Assessment.You will deliver tailored coaching and provide clear, actionable feedback to ensure learners stay on track and meet key milestones. An important aspect of the role is recognising individual learning needs and ensuring appropriate support is in place so all apprentices can progress equitably.Alongside apprenticeship delivery, you will contribute to the delivery and assessment of commercial qualifications, including the BIIAB Personal Licence, and support the ongoing development of high-quality learning programmes that reflect current industry practices and employer needs.This is a collaborative and outward-facing role. You will work closely with employers to build strong partnerships, secure work placements, and ensure training aligns with business requirements. You will also support the growth of the college's commercial provision by contributing to promotional activities, events, and new business opportunities, while helping to maintain excellent customer and learner experiences within commercial environments.You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records, meeting compliance requirements, and contributing to quality assurance and continuous improvement processes. A commitment to professional development and staying up to date with industry trends, funding, and training practices is essential.Above all, you will embody and promote the college's values, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and high-quality learning environment for all.Essential Experience:Experience assessing or training apprentices in Hospitality Apprenticeship StandardsAwareness of Health & Safety, Food Safety, and safeguarding requirementsProficiency in digital systems (Microsoft Office, Smart Assessor, or similar)Experience in an educational or training environmentExperience working in a commercial restaurant, hotel, or catering environmentGood communication skills with ability to work effectively with employers, customers, academic and support staffStrong communication and relationship-building skills with employers and learnersExperience of coordinating or supporting work placementsUp-to-date knowledge of apprenticeship standards and EPA requirementsGood administration and organisational skillsEssential Qualifications:Minimum of Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics GCSE 4+ or C and above / CSE Level 1 / O-Level C or above / Level 2 Adult Numeracy or Literacy or equivalentLevel 3 qualification in Catering, Hospitality, or equivalent vocational area (or a willingness to achieve in post)Assessor/Verifier AwardsBIIAB Personal Licence qualification or willingness to completeTeaching qualification at level 3 or above (or a willingness to achieve in post)Why join us?At Colchester Institute, we value our staff and invest in their growth.
