We are currently recruiting a confident and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Gateshead. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take on greater responsibility across teaching and learning.

About the Role

As a HLTA, you will play a key role in supporting high-quality teaching across the school. You will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and the senior leadership team to deliver learning, lead interventions, and support pupil progress.

You will be expected to take responsibility for whole-class learning during teacher PPA time, as well as delivering targeted small group and 1:1 support where needed.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver planned lessons to whole classes during teacher absence or PPA cover
Lead intervention groups in core subjects including English and Maths
Support pupils with SEND, ensuring learning is accessible and inclusive
Assist in planning and adapting learning activities with teaching staff
Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies
Monitor and feedback on pupil progress and engagement
Support pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development

What We’re Looking For

HLTA qualification or equivalent school-based experience
Strong classroom management skills
Confidence delivering lessons across primary age groups
Experience supporting pupils with additional needs (desirable)
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
A proactive, adaptable, and professional approach

Monday to Friday
8:30am – 3:30pm
