An established public‑sector organisation is seeking a Highway Engineer to support the design and delivery of a varied programme of highway improvement, traffic management and road safety schemes. This is a technical, hands‑on role suited to an engineer who enjoys working across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility through to delivery, within a collaborative, multi‑disciplinary environment. You will work closely with senior engineers and project managers, contributing to the development of cost‑effective, compliant and practical engineering solutions that meet statutory requirements and recognised industry standards.
MINIMUM OF 2 DAYS ON SITE IN BOURNEMOUTH
What you'll be doing
Supporting the development and delivery of highway improvement, traffic management and road safety schemes from concept through to completion Undertaking feasibility studies, preliminary and detailed design work Preparing technical drawings, specifications, cost estimates and reports Monitoring programme and cost performance, escalating issues and agreeing changes where required Coordinating with contractors, consultants, utility providers and other external bodies Engaging with stakeholders, including attendance at meetings and public consultation events Ensuring compliance with health & safety legislation, CDM requirements and relevant standards Assisting with site assessments, identifying issues and recommending solutionsWhat you'll need to succeed
Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent relevant experience) Experience working within highways, transportation or civil engineering design environments Strong knowledge of highway improvement schemes and design processes Good understanding of relevant legislation, standards and health & safety requirements Experience with design and engineering software such as AutoCAD / Civil 3D Ability to prepare high‑quality technical documentation and drawings Experience liaising with contractors, consultants and external stakeholders Full UK driving licence for site visitsIf you're interested in this role, click 'apply now' to forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, or call us now.
