Summary
We’re hiring for a critical leadership role within our Built Environment division: Head of SHE (Safety, Health and Environment).
This is an exciting opportunity to shape and drive SHE strategy at divisional level, working as part of the Senior Leadership Team. You will lead our SHE function, influence culture across our operations, and ensure compliance with Group SHE standards, helping us continue to embed an industry-leading approach to safety, health, and environmental performance.
As the Head of SHE, you’ll set strategy, develop policy, build capability, and act as the division’s SHE figurehead internally and externally. This role reports directly to the Managing Director and has responsibility for the SHE team across the division.
Some of the key deliverables in this role will include:
Health & Safety Leadership
Develop and implement divisional SHE strategy and policy to meet internal and external compliance standards. Ensure the “Safety First and Foremost” message is embedded across all Built Environment division activities. Lead initiatives to continuously improve safety culture and environmental performance.
Best Practice & Continuous Improvement
Promote the highest levels of SHE standards, practices and behaviours across the organisation. Strengthen the SHE function by developing competencies aligned to industry and Group best practice. Influence senior leaders to enhance SHE awareness and drive behavioural change.
Team Leadership & Engagement
Lead, develop and support the SHE team through clear objectives, accountability and performance management. Provide guidance, coaching and feedback to maximise team performance and capability.
Stakeholder & Relationship Management
Build and manage effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, representing the division as a SHE authority. Act as the divisional SHE champion, influencing change at all levels.
Compliance & Governance
Ensure adherence to all statutory and regulatory SHE standards, plus Group SHE requirements. Maintain certification, accreditation and compliance across all sites. Ensure SHE issues are recorded, investigated and closed out appropriately, with key learnings shared.
Performance & Reporting
Lead reporting of divisional SHE performance in line with Group standards. Identify trends and work with local management to develop proactive solutions. Support continuous improvement through clear communication of performance insights.
To be successful in this role:
We need someone with substantial SHE leadership experience within a complex operational environment — ideally within construction and engineering sectors.
We’re also looking for the following:
Experience
Significant experience delivering sustained SHE performance improvement through leadership and behavioural change. Strong understanding of SHE governance, compliance and management systems. Ability to influence at senior levels with credibility and strategic insight.
Qualifications
Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IOSH).
Additional Skills & Competencies
Strong strategic thinking with the ability to translate strategy into operational performance. Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage at all levels. Ability to lead, coach and develop teams to build high performance.
