Head of Property Compliance Location: North LondonSalary: £45,000 - £60,000Hours: Mon – Thurs 9.30 – 5.30 pm; Friday 9.30 – 1 pm; Friday in Summer 2pm At the core of our client’s business based in north London is a desire to drive positive change. Role Overview The Head of Compliance will take full ownership of the firm’s compliance function, ensuring adherence to all UK property regulations across lettings, client money handling, tenant management, and property safety. This is a senior role requiring a highly experienced professional capable of building robust processes, managing risk, and leading compliance across a growing portfolio. Key Responsibilities
Regulatory & Operational Compliance: Ensure full compliance with UK legislation (Housing Act, Landlord & Tenant law, Tenant Fees Act, Right to Rent); act as the primary contact for regulators and redress schemes (The Property Ombudsman); oversee Client Money Protection (CMP) compliance. Deposits & Client Money: Oversee all client money processes, ensuring accurate handling and audit readiness; ensure all deposits are protected via approved schemes (DPS) within statutory deadlines; manage deposit compliance and dispute processes. Asset Onboarding & Property Compliance: Lead onboarding of new assets; verify compliance documentation (FRA, EICR, EPC, Gas Safety, HMO licences); oversee planning compliance and local authority requirements; manage contractors to ensure timely delivery of remedial works. Property Safety & Maintenance Compliance: Ensure all properties meet statutory safety standards; track certification expiry and inspections; maintain full audit trails and compliance records. Risk, Audit & Governance: Develop and implement compliance frameworks and policies; conduct regular audits across tenant files and client accounts; identify risks and report performance to senior leadership. AML & Data Protection: Oversee AML compliance in line with HMRC requirements; ensure compliance with UK GDPR and data protection legislation.
Experience & Requirements
Significant experience in UK property compliance or senior property management. Proven track record in leading compliance functions within a lettings or real estate business. Expertise in HMO licensing, property safety regulations, and deposit protection (DPS/TDS/MyDeposits). Experience managing client money and regulatory audits. Ability to drive high standards and manage stakeholders effectively.
