InsurX is reinventing how complex commercial insurance is traded. To support that scale, they're hiring a Head of Engineering to lead the next evolution of their platform. Setting the technical direction of their platform, driving architectural decisions that enable performance, scalability, and reliability as they scale to $1bn+ in traded gross market value.
• Leading and growing the engineering team while embedding a culture of autonomy, ownership, and accountability. Building a team that thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment, values clean, observable, and testable code, and protects time for foundational work such as refactoring and reducing technical debt.
• Establishing engineering excellence, with clear principles around reliability, security, observability, cloud infrastructure and cost-ePectiveness.
They believe in efficient, scalable engineering. That means automating what they can, iterating fast, and building just enough process to stay aligned, not to slow things down. They use modern tooling and believe engineers should use the best available tech (including AI) to accelerate development, improve quality, and reduce toil.
Their engineering culture reflects their company values: That means taking full responsibility for what we ship, building with the customer in mind (even when they don’t interact with their tech), and holding themselves to high standards, not just in what they build, but how they build it.
This is a cross-functional team sport, not a solo game. You’ll work closely with Product, Data, and Ops, and help build a culture of open feedback, clarity, and shared wins.
And they Lead with data: their best ideas come from evidence, not opinions. You’re an experienced engineering leader who has successfully scaled software teams and systems in a startup or high-growth scale up in a regulated environment where trust, data integrity and uptime aren’t optional, they are contractual.
• You’ve spent 3+ years in Engineering Management roles (managing multiple teams or a growing team), and 3+ years as a hands-on Tech Lead, ideally in a venture-backed Series A+ company.
• You still enjoy writing code when it matters. You have deep experience with at least one major programming language (Python, C#, Java, etc.): they currently use C#/.NET for their core platform and Python for their data platform and are simplifying this stack as they scale.
