Head of Housing Management Litigation – East Midlands

Expanding affordable housing company has a key hiring requirement for a Head of Housing Management Litigation to support the continued expansion of their in-house housing management operations. Based in newly refurbished offices, 20 minutes from the M1, the role offers hybrid working arrangements of 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home (if required).

Reporting to the General Counsel, you will be a key part of the senior management legal team, responsible for all housing management litigation. The core focus will include a broad range of housing litigation matters and some non-contentious work such as policy advice. Work will involve gaining possession, anti-social behaviour proceedings, disrepair claims, emergency injections, fraud investigations, service charge disputes, and cases before the FTT and higher courts.

Key accountabilities

  1. Strategic Legal Leadership
  2. Advise the Leadership Team and Board on legal risks, housing management, and property litigation.
  3. Develop and implement legal strategies aligned with organisational goals.
  4. Lead and manage the in-house legal team, supervising direct reports.
  5. Manage instructions and relationships with external legal counsel.
  6. Prepare and present documentation for the Board and Executive team.
  7. Provide training to internal clients.
  1. Housing Litigation
  2. Manage housing management caseloads, including disputes related to tenancy issues, possession claims, anti-social behaviour, and disrepair claims.
  3. Maintain and update legal policies and procedures in line with legal and regulatory changes.
  4. Review and draft tenancy agreements.
  5. Liaise with external solicitors and represent the organisation in legal proceedings where appropriate.
