Base pay range Head of Fraud Operations Central London (Hybrid) Up to £90,000 (DOE) + Equity Sanderson is partnering with a high-growth FinTech in the payments space that has already achieved Unicorn status in its home market. Backed by major global VC investors, the company is now preparing to launch in the UK and is building out an exceptional team to make it happen. As the Head of Fraud Operations, you’ll be at the forefront of building a robust risk and fraud framework for a fast-growing fintech. This is a unique opportunity to shape strategy from the ground up, protecting the company and its customers from fraud while ensuring full regulatory compliance. The business is looking for a data-driven individual who can roll up their sleeves when required, build and manage a team from scratch, and is happy to contribute to broader risk work as well. This is a strategic, hands‑on leadership position where you’ll work closely with the MLRO and senior leadership, collaborating on key decisions and representing the company with regulators. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you’ll gain exposure to every facet of risk. If you’re passionate about building something from scratch and love to grow, you’ll have the freedom and resources to do incredible things with this team. Key responsibilities include:
Develop and enhance fraud risk management strategies Lead and grow a team of financial crime analysts Oversee transaction monitoring, investigations, and high-risk merchant reviews Manage fraud alerts, fine‑tune detection rules, and minimise losses Ensure compliance with FCA reporting and act as liaison with regulators Provide insights and updates to senior leadership and the Board
Requirements:
FinTech or Payments Expertise - Strong background in financial technology or payment services Proven Leadership - Demonstrated ability to manage teams and build high‑performing functions from the ground up Proven Knowledge of Fraud Typologies - Skilled in designing and implementing fraud rules to mitigate emerging risks Card Issuing & Acquiring Knowledge - Hands‑on experience in card programmes and payment processing SQL Skills - Practical SQL proficiency for data analysis and reporting Analytical & Operational Balance - Ability to combine strategic thinking with hands‑on operational execution Proactive & Energetic - A self‑starter with enthusiasm, drive, and a solutions‑oriented mindset
