Role Overview

We are seeking a committed Graduate Teaching Assistant to support teaching staff in delivering outstanding education within a school or educational setting. This temporary, full-time role involves assisting with classroom activities, providing targeted support to students, and contributing to a positive and effective learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Assist teachers in preparing and delivering lessons, including organising materials and resources.
Support individual pupils or small groups with learning activities, offering guidance and encouragement.
Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
Observe and monitor student progress and behaviour, reporting any concerns promptly to teaching staff.
Supervise pupils during lessons, breaks, and other school activities to ensure their welfare and safety.
Assist with administrative tasks such as marking work, recording attendance, and organising classroom resources.
Contribute to the development and implementation of tailored educational plans to meet student needs.
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and school events as required.
Support the inclusion of students with additional needs or disabilities within the classroom.

Essential Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in any subject.
Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check clearance, or willingness to undergo one.

Education

Completed undergraduate degree from a recognised higher education institution.

Experience

Some experience working with children or young people, preferably within an educational or youth-focused setting.
Experience supporting learning activities or providing educational assistance is advantageous but not mandatory.

Knowledge and Skills

Sound understanding of the school curriculum and educational practises.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, appropriate for engaging with pupils, staff, and parents.
Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with pupils, colleagues, and families.
Strong organisational skills with attention to detail in managing classroom resources and records.
Patience, empathy and the ability to motivate and support students effectively.
Basic IT proficiency, including familiarity with common educational software and Microsoft Office applications.
Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience as a teaching assistant or in a similar educational support role.
Training or certification in safeguarding and child protection.
First aid qualification.
Knowledge of special educational needs and disability (SEND) provision.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily based within classrooms and school premises.
Regular interaction with pupils of diverse ages and abilities.
May involve standing for extended periods and occasional manual handling of educational materials.
Temporary full-time hours, typically Monday to Friday during term time.
Occasional attendance at meetings or training outside standard school hours may be required.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
