Graduate Scientist
Location: On-site - Oak Tree House or Coleby House
Salary: Graduate entry level: £27,564.60 per annum; With 1 year post grad experience: £28,980 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday (8-hour days, 30-minute lunch break)

Graduate Scientist role is part of Broughton's Laboratory Operations team. Responsibilities include performing chemical analyses on client products within agreed timelines and quality standards, generating accurate, compliant analytical data in accordance with GMP, ISO, and UKAS requirements.
Responsibilities
Perform analytical testing on customer-supplied products in line with study protocols and approved methods
Generate high-quality, compliant data within agreed turnaround times
Prepare reagents, samples and standards to support laboratory testing
Operate analytical instrumentation, including HPLC and LC-MS, GC-FID and GC-MS and CETI-8
Record raw data accurately and promptly in line with ALCOA principles
Produce and verify data and documentation in accordance with the Quality Management System
Maintain high standards of laboratory housekeeping and audit readiness
Comply with all company policies and procedures, including Health & Safety requirements
Escalate and document any deviations from test methods or study plans appropriately
With experience and training, you will also:
Train out study protocols and support investigations into OOT results, deviations and non-conformances
Support client projects through protocol preparation, sample booking and coordination of subcontracted testing
Analyse, verify and interpret scientific data, communicating results clearly in written and verbal form
Use data handling and statistical tools to present results clearly (e.g. Excel, Crystal Reports, Minitab)
Contribute to continuous improvement activities and support broader team objectives
Qualifications
A degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline
Good technical problem‑solving skills
Strong verbal reasoning and communication ability
Competence with standard Microsoft Office applications
A reliable individual contributor who works effectively within a team
A careful, methodical approach with strong attention to detail
Preferred qualifications
Experience with chromatography, mass spectrometry and chromatography data systems
Experience using statistical packages
Root cause analysis and structured problem‑solving experience
Confidence in proposing practical solutions to analytical challenges
