Position Overview The role of GP Training Programme Director is to work with and support the Heads of School and the Primary Care Dean in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to the objectives of NHS England Workforce Training and Education (WT&E). The GP Training Programme Director is professionally accountable to the Head of School and managerially accountable to the GP Patch Associate Dean. The role focuses on the improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future. The role is evolving and will also focus on whole‑workforce transformation and developing multi‑professional links, working across the spectrum of health and, where relevant, social care so that the provision of education reflects changing service models. Key Responsibilities
Lead and support the delivery of GP training programmes in accordance with NHS England Workforce Training and Education objectives. Improve learner supervision, assessment and experience, and engage faculty to maximise educational outcomes. Facilitate whole‑workforce transformation and develop multi‑professional links across health and social care. Represent the Primary Care Department as a positive advocate for NHS England at all times.
Qualifications and Experience
Membership/Fellowship of a recognised College, Faculty, professional association and/or regulatory body. Attendance at courses aimed to support educational development (e.g., educator courses, Train the Trainer). Educational qualification such as a postgraduate certificate or currently undertaking an approved and validated course to obtain it at the earliest opportunity. GP medical practitioner registered with the GMC and holding a current licence to practise. Self‑motivated, able to respond quickly to changing priorities and workloads. Strong leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence and motivate others. Politically astute with an ability to sensitively manage complexity and uncertainty. Strong interpersonal, communication, written and presentation skills. Excellent organisational and time‑management skills. Committed to personal development and able to support others to develop and progress. Visionary, innovative, and experienced in working with learners or doctors in training in an educational context. Experience of clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi‑professional team. Demonstrable track record of delivery in service and education. Understanding of developments involving relevant Colleges/Faculties, professional bodies, NHS organisations and regulatory bodies. Understanding of the workforce transformation agenda. Trained and experienced in recruitment, selection and equality and diversity for the last three years. Active involvement in, and up‑to‑date with, appraisal processes. Knowledge of the NHS, its structures and processes, including an understanding of healthcare/multi‑professional workforce matters. Applicants who are doctors require a licence to practise and a previous or current appointment as a leader in healthcare education. Awareness of funding streams for healthcare education. Higher educational qualification such as a postgraduate diploma or Masters in Medical Education.
