Overview

We’re hiring a Full Stack Developer to help us build, scale and mature a high-impact AI-powered product used by international tax teams at some of the world’s largest companies.

Aegiss is a venture-backed AI startup building a product to help internal tax teams verify local tax rules for their international jurisdictions quickly, accurately, and cost-effectively. We’re backed by Ada Ventures, have a highly experienced founding team, and our early customers include some of the largest tech companies in Europe and the US. 

In this role, you will be our first senior full stack engineering hire, playing a critical role in shaping both the product and the engineering foundations of the company. You will work directly with the founders, and will meaningfully contribute to, and influence, product architecture, technical strategy and engineering best practices. The role will be based in our Edinburgh office on Queen Street.

What you’ll be doing

• Designing, building and maintaining features using React on the frontend and Node.js (Express) on the backend.
• Owning end-to-end delivery of product features, from technical design through to product.
• Working closely with the founders to translate customer needs into scalable technical solutions.
• Improving and evolving our API layer, data models and system architecture as the product scales.
• Writing clean, maintainable and well tested code across the stack.
• Helping establish engineering standards, tooling and best practices in an early stage environment.
• Collaborating with Ai/ML components and backend services to integrate intelligent workflows into the product.
• Debugging, optimizing and improving performance and reliability across the system.

Requirements for this role

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong experience with React (or a similar modern frontend framework).
• Solid understanding of REST APIs, authentication and data modeling.
• Comfortable operating in a fast moving startup environment with a high level of autonomy and ownership.
• Strong problem solving skills and a pragmatic product focused mindset.
• An interest in AI and machine learning.

Nice to have

• Experience with or an interest in Python.
• Experience with setting up infrastructure on AWS (or a similar platform).
• An understanding of machine learning techniques and ReAct agents.
• Experience mentoring and guiding other engineers.
