About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Foreman / Manual Machinist to join our busy tool room supporting the railway industry. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone with strong machining expertise and the ability to motivate and manage a workshop team.
The successful candidate will have a solid background in engineering processes, including milling, drilling, turning, and will lead by example to ensure high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and organise workshop staff to consistently deliver jobs in line with production schedules
* Carry out a variety of manufacturing processes using mild steel, and occasionally stainless steel, and copper, working from technical drawings
* Prepare order sheets and coordinate material procurement for each job
* Attend and actively contribute to team meetings
* Train and support employees as required, including mentoring apprentices
* Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment, leading by example
* Ensure all training records, paperwork, and spreadsheets are kept up to date
* Work closely with the Workshop Manager, Welding Manager, and Stores team to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products
