We help manage it.\nPlease note-Due to the hybrid nature of the role, and several regional offices, we can consider candidates from anywhere in the UK.\nIf flood risk, drainage strategy and smart problem-solving are your thing — and you enjoy helping others get better at what they do — this could be your next move.\nWe’re looking for an Associate Consultant to join our Flood Risk & Drainage team. Someone technically sharp, commercially savvy, and quietly confident enough to lead projects without needing a megaphone.
You’ll work across planning and transactional due diligence projects for public and private sector clients, shaping solutions that actually stand up in the real world.\nWhat you’ll actually be doing\nYou’ll guide projects from first sketch to final sign-off, keeping quality high and stress levels low:\n * Owning projects from inception to completion — including proposals and tenders — balancing technical depth with commercial sense\n * Producing and overseeing Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies and Flood Scoping Reports for planning applications\n * Supporting colleagues with conceptual drainage design, including SuDS, and reviewing drainage layouts\n * Carrying out technical reviews of reports, drawings and calculations (details matter)\n * Delivering Flood Risk Appraisals for investor and pension fund clients, assessing all sources of flooding and offering practical, commercially sound advice\n * Providing tailored guidance to help clients navigate tricky flood risk and drainage challenges\n * Getting involved in service and product development, including work in emerging areas such as nutrient neutrality and ESG\n * Building strong working relationships with clients and collaborating across the wider Lucion Group\n * Mentoring and line-managing team members — helping them grow, not micromanaging them\nThis role will suit you if…\nYou don’t just do the work — you think about how it could be done better next time:\n * You have a growth mindset and enjoy solving problems\n * You’re organised, adaptable, and comfortable working to deadlines\n * You pick up new skills quickly and take ownership of your work\n * You’re interested in developing new services and improving existing ones\n * You’re positive about client engagement and work winning\n * You value CPD and continuous learning\n * You communicate clearly and enjoy working with people\nYour background (the important stuff)\nYou’ll already be comfortable operating at a senior level and ready to step into an Associate role:\n * A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Geography), or equivalent experience\n * 7+ years’ experience in flood risk and drainage consultancy\n * Strong understanding of design standards, planning policy and regulatory processes\n * Proven experience managing projects and liaising with clients and statutory consultees\n * A strong sense of commercial awareness\n * Experience with MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage or similar software (preferable)\n * Experience using AutoCAD (preferable)\n * Experience with QGIS or other GIS software\n * Chartered status, or actively working towards it (desirable, not essential)\nIf you’re looking for a role where technical expertise, creativity and collaboration genuinely coexist — and where being really good at what you do is simply the norm — we’d love to hear from you.\nBecause flood risk doesn’t stand still.
