Flood and Land Drainage Engineer
This is an exciting opportunity to join our welcoming and well-respected district council in an interesting location and help us, our communities and partner organisations become more flood resilient.
About the role
This role will:
lead in the discharge of the council’s responsibilities in respect of all flooding and land drainage matters. Knowledge of flood defence and land drainage systems is essential
provide technical advice and assistance to landowners, including where appropriate the use of formal powers, to ensure the requirements of the Flood & Water Management Act, Land Drainage Act and our Land Drainage By-Laws are met
produce contract specifications and supervise contractors in carrying out schemes of work for community benefit
support the council’s climate and sustainability priorities; and support the Planning Service by providing planning advice including Flood Risk Assessments, Emergency Flood Evacuation plans and Natural Flood Management schemes.
The role also has temporary management responsibility for a member of staff 2.5 days per week to support your delivery of a community flood resilience approach (this is a council plan priority).
About you
You will hold an incorporated Engineer or equivalent relevant qualification with relevant applied experience. You will be a creative problem solver with a commitment to a customer- and community-focused approach, balanced with the requirements of legislation and regulation. You will be able an effective communicator, and display and promote the Council’s values and behaviours.
