Fired Equipment Discipline Lead

Location: Reading, UK

Pay: £84,200 - £114,000 per annum
Our client, a leading player in the petrochemical and refining sector, is hiring for a reputable project in Reading. Join a dynamic team working on the SAMREF+ Project, which aims to develop a world-scale mixed-feed steam cracker and upgrade refinery facilities, focusing on reducing emissions and enhancing efficiency.
What you'll be doing:
* Provide technical leadership for fired equipment design, ensuring safety, operability, and cost-effectiveness.
* Collaborate with project teams and contractors to optimise scope, manage risks, and drive value improvements.
* Assess new technology proposals, ensuring they meet project standards and are appropriately qualified.
* Own and develop engineering standards, specifications, and philosophies for fired equipment.
* Oversee contractor deliverables, ensuring alignment with project requirements and standards.
* Lead technical reviews, hazard studies, and safety assessments related to fired equipment.
* Manage workload effectively, prioritising critical activities and supporting risk-based decision-making.
What you'll bring:
* Extensive experience in design, operation, and optimisation of combustion equipment such as fired heaters, boilers, flares, and thermal oxidisers.
* Proven expertise in thermal design, emissions control, and safety safeguarding of fired equipment.
* Strong background in developing engineering standards, design basis, and safety philosophies.
* Experience with large-scale module design and execution strategies.
* Excellent collaboration, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
* Familiarity with upstream refining or chemical process units, especially in heavy oil upgrading or sour gas treatment.
* Knowledge of industry standards and working with multicultural teams, preferably with exposure to Middle East projects.
Qualifications & Certifications:
* Relevant technical qualifications in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
* Industry-standard safety and risk management certifications are advantageous.
