Job Description
We are now looking for three Fire Safety Professionals / Junior Fire Engineers to join us on a full-time, permanent basis. Part-time working hours are available for these roles. We can accept part-time applicants who can commit to working a minimum of 25 hours per week.\nAs a Fire Safety Professional / Junior Fire Engineer, you will support the BSR’s work to review, improve, and communicate fire safety standards for buildings in England.\nWorking closely with the Senior Fire Safety Technical Lead, you will help shape policy, research, and guidance, ensuring it’s based on robust evidence and aligned with government priorities.\nYou will scope and oversee research projects into key fire safety issues, contribute to the review and drafting of statutory guidance, and support government advice on emerging risks.\nYour work will directly influence how buildings are designed, built, and managed, with an emphasis on improving safety standards and public confidence.\nAdditionally, you will:\n - Manage relationships with a wide range of stakeholders\n - Write guidance and policy documents and contribute to industry standards development\n - Represent government at industry committees, events, and conferences\n - Monitor and report on research outcomes\nYou can be based at any of the advertised locations, however, there will be the need for occasional travel to other HSE offices, including some potential overnight stays.\nThe Benefits \n\n - Salary of £45,954 - £53,265 per annum\n - Posts based in London will include an additional £4,378 London Weighting Allowance\n - Access to the Civil Service Pension Scheme with an employer contribution of 28.97%\n - 25 days’ annual leave rising to 30 days after five years’ service, plus bank holidays and 1-day Civil Service privilege leave\n - Family friendly policies and working hours to support work-life balance\n - Carer-friendly policies to help create a supportive working culture\n - Parental leave benefits\n - Access to a wide range of additional benefits including the Cycle to Work Scheme, E-Gift Cards and Vouchers via EdenRed\n - Learning and development tailored to your role\n - An environment with flexible working options\n - A culture encouraging inclusion and diversity\nThis is a fantastic opportunity for qualified fire safety professionals to join our nationally respected organisation, helping to shape the future of building safety in England.\nAs part of a highly skilled team, you’ll have the chance to develop your expertise while directly influencing building safety standards, through our learning and development initiatives and outstanding training offering.\nSo, if you’re passionate about protecting lives and influencing positive change in building standards, we want to hear from you - apply now and join us in creating a safer tomorrow.
