About the Company:
My client is a growing and dynamic commercial business based in Braintree, operating in a fast-paced and results-driven environment. With a strong focus on profitability, operational efficiency, and strategic growth, they are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead their finance function and support senior leadership in driving business performance.
The Role:
As Financial Controller, you will take ownership of the finance function, ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting, and insightful analysis. You will work closely with the senior management team to support strategic decision-making and improve commercial outcomes. The role includes line management responsibility for two direct reports within the finance team.
Key Responsibilities: Overseeing day-to-day financial operations, including purchase ledger, sales ledger, and cash management
Managing and developing two direct reports, providing guidance, support, and performance management
Producing timely and accurate monthly management accounts with detailed commentary
Leading budgeting and forecasting processes
Delivering financial analysis to support commercial decision-making
Monitoring cash flow and working capital performance
Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and internal controls
Managing the year-end process and liaising with external auditors
Identifying opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains
Supporting senior stakeholders across the business with financial insight
Requirements: Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA)
Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role within a commercial environment
Strong leadership and team management skills
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
Strong systems skills, including advanced Excel
Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
Proactive, hands-on approach with a commercial mindset
Desirable: Experience in SME or growing business environments
Experience implementing or improving financial systems and processes
