Job Description
Role: Field-Based Biomedical Application Specialist\n\nLocation: Newcastle region (QE Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland)\n\nHours: Monday - Friday\n\nContract: 12-month contract, Inside IR35\n\nPAYE Rate: £200-£250 per day (excluding holiday pay)\n\nUmbrella Rate: £265.27-£331.59 per day (including holiday pay)\n\nDue to the location, you must be able to drive & have access to a vehicle. \n\nAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Biomedical Scientist or Applications Support Scientist to join a leading global diagnostics organisation as part of their North Technical Services team.\n\nThis role provides essential support across chemistry and immunoassay analysers, as well as pre- and post-analytical laboratory solutions. You will play a key part in installation projects, troubleshooting activities, workflow optimisation and ensuring pathology laboratories receive the highest standard of technical support.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nAs a Product Specialist - Applications, your duties will include:\n\nDelivering training to laboratory scientists and end users\nProviding onsite troubleshooting and technical support across multiple hospital sites\nCoordinating and resolving customer issues efficiently\nSupporting system installations, upgrades, and modifications\nParticipating in review meetings with laboratory teams\nBuilding and maintaining excellent working relationships with end users\nThis is a field-based role covering the QE Gateshead, Sunderland, and South Tyneside hospital sites.
Requirements\n\nEssential:\n\nDegree in Biomedical Science or a related scientific field\nExperience working within an NHS pathology laboratory (minimum 2-3 years)\nHands-on experience with diagnostic analysers (chemistry, immunoassay, haematology, etc.)\nStrong technical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills\nAbility to deliver user training confidently and clearly\nAbility to work independently across several sites\nResilient, adaptable, and comfortable in fast-paced environments\nFull UK driving licence \n\nDesirable:\n\nPrevious field-based or applications specialist experience\nExperience supporting analyser installations or workflow improvements\nKnowledge of laboratory quality systems (QC, IQC, UKAS, ISO15189) \n\nWho We're Looking For\n\nSomeone who is:\n\nResilient, proactive, and confident in a customer-facing technical role\nSkilled at analysing and resolving complex technical issues\nHighly organised, capable of managing travel and workload independently\nMotivated by delivering excellent service and exceeding customer expectations\nKeen to maintain and develop strong technical knowledge
