Field Service Engineer – Labelling Machines

Location : Home-based, ideally located near Essex (with significant travel required).

Role Overview

As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of high-speed labelling equipment in demanding manufacturing/packaging environments. This includes installation, commissioning, operator training, routine maintenance, breakdown repair, and service support. Your role will involve substantial travel and occasional weekend work.

Key Responsibilities

Install, commission and hand-over high speed labelling (and related) machines to customer sites.
Provide operator and maintenance training to customer staff.
Perform routine maintenance and service interventions to maximise uptime of installed equipment.
Diagnose and fault-find electrical, mechanical and pneumatic issues (including PLC fault-finding).
Travel frequently and work away during the week; occasional weekend assignments may be required.
Engage professionally with customers, influence decisions, and promote after-sales value (spare parts, upgrades, service contracts).
Work independently, prioritise tasks, and deliver high quality service with commercial awareness.

Full UK driving licence and willingness to stay away from home during assignments.

Desirable Skills

Formal electrical or mechanical qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, HNC/HND however relevant experience will be considered).
Exposure to packaging-line automation, production-line environments and high throughput consumer-goods manufacturing.
Previous field-service experience in a capital-equipment environment.

Package

Home-based role covering the UK.
Competitive salary: £40,000–£45,000 basic.
40-hour standard week; overtime paid at 1.5× & 2.0× rates (potential OT earnings: £10,000–£15,000).
