Field Engineering Manager

Job Description

We’re Hiring: Field Engineering Manager (UK)

We’re looking for a Field Engineering Manager to build, lead, and professionalise a growing field engineering function within a specialist technology business operating across critical infrastructure environments.

This is not a role where everything is already in place. You’ll be stepping into a capable but under-structured function — with the backing to shape it properly.

The Opportunity

You’ll take ownership of a national field engineering capability delivering:

  • CCTV & video analytics

  • Networking & infrastructure

  • Access control & physical security systems

Historically, this function has been managed in a fragmented way. That changes now.

You’ll define how it should operate — from team structure and subcontractor strategy to health & safety governance, planning, and quality standards.

If you want to build something properly — not just maintain it — this role is designed for you.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Leading and developing a team of field engineers and subcontractors

  • Building a robust H&S and compliance culture

  • Establishing resource planning, reporting, and governance frameworks

  • Managing subcontractor performance and onboarding

  • Driving consistent quality standards across all site work

  • Owning the commercial performance of the function (cost, utilisation, delivery)

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience leading field engineering teams (not just scheduling)

  • Strong background in H&S, compliance, and regulated environments

  • Experience managing subcontractors and field delivery at scale

  • Commercial awareness — understanding cost-to-serve and delivery models

  • A hands-on, direct leadership style — able to fix problems, not just highlight them

  • High standards when it comes to quality and execution

What Success Looks Like

  • 0–3 months: Understand the team, assess gaps, and implement immediate improvements in H&S and planning

  • 3–6 months: Establish structure, governance, and consistent delivery standards

  • 12 months: A fully professional, self-managing field engineering function with clear strategy and strong performance

Location & Travel

  • Based full-time at HQ in Steeton

  • Regular travel across the UK (including occasional overnight stays)

Key Requirements

  • Eligible for UK security clearance (NPPV3/SC)

  • Full UK driving licence

  • Comfortable operating in regulated, high-accountability environments
