About the Role

The Executive Dean (Academic) is a senior appointment working closely with the Deputy Vice‑Chancellor and Provost. The role leads the development and delivery of the University’s Academic Strategy, provides senior oversight of the five Schools, and manages the Heads of School.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Shaping a coherent, competitive, future‑focused academic portfolio, integrating curriculum innovation, research and knowledge exchange, digital delivery, internationalisation, and market positioning.
  • Championing applied learning and strengthening engagement with employers and external partners to keep the academic offer relevant, impactful and responsive to student and workforce needs.
  • Driving quality, inclusivity and student experience across the institution.
  • Leading institution‑wide change such as curriculum transformation, research development, partnerships, internationalisation, or digital innovation.

  • Deep insight into the UK higher education landscape and the ability to translate external drivers into clear strategic priorities and sustainable impact.
  • Ability to inspire and engage academic and professional colleagues during periods of change.
