Estimator

What the role’s about
You will provide accurate and competitive cost estimates for HVAC and mechanical services projects. The Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed estimates, coordinating with suppliers and subcontractors, and supporting the bid process to secure profitable projects.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating and Costing:
Prepare detailed cost estimates for HVAC and mechanical services projects, including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
Analyse project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates.
Identify and quantify cost factors, such as production time, materials, and labour expenses.
Conduct site visits to gather information on project scope and site conditions as needed.
Tender Preparation:
Develop and submit tender documents in accordance with client requirements and deadlines.
Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain and review quotes.
Evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals for compliance with project requirements and budget.
Prepare bid packages and ensure all tender documentation is complete and accurate.
Implement and maintain best practices in estimating processes.
Project Management Support:
Provide cost information and support to project managers during the project lifecycle.
Assist in the preparation of project budgets and financial reports.
Track project costs and update estimates as necessary to reflect changes in scope or conditions.
Participate in project handover meetings to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to project management.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
Attend client meetings to discuss and clarify project requirements and deliverables.
Provide technical and cost advice to clients and project teams.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and new technologies in HVAC and mechanical services.
Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements in the estimating function.
Maintain and update the estimating database and cost libraries.
Candidate Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Professional certification or membership in relevant industry bodies (e.g., HVCA, CIBSE) is an advantage.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical estimating, with a focus on HVAC and mechanical services projects.
Proven track record of preparing accurate and competitive estimates for projects of varying size and complexity.
Experience in the commercial, residential, and industrial sectors is .
Skills and Competencies:
Strong analytical and numerical skills.
Proficiency in estimating software and tools.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
