As a 1:1 Specialist Tutor, you will:
Deliver bespoke, engaging lessons ESOL to unaccompanied asylum seeking learners who need to bridge the gap in their language to attain a college placement.
Help bridge learning gaps and rebuild confidence for pupils who have often missed significant periods of formal education.
Implement tailored strategies that address behavioural, emotional, and academic challenges.
Maintain flexibility and creativity to meet each student's individual needs and goals.
Workload and Hours:
- Fully flexible - choose how many pupils you support and when.
- Opportunities typically range from 2 to 10 hours per week per student.
- Most tuition takes place during school hours, though after-school sessions may also be available.
Support and Resources:
- While you will be responsible for planning and delivering lessons, you'll be supported by Prospero's Learning Delivery Manager, who can provide:
- Lesson plan templates
- Baseline assessments
- Tailored resources
- If the pupil is still enrolled in a school, we will coordinate with the classroom teacher to identify specific learning gaps, helping you create a more effective, bespoke programme.
Who We're Looking For:
- Qualified teaching professionals with experience in SEN, ESOL, and/or GCSE tuition
- Confident delivering 1:1 lessons to students with additional learning needs or complex circumstances
- Able to adapt teaching style to support emotional and behavioural development
- Committed to building trust, engagement, and academic progress
Requirements:
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply for one)
- At least 6 months' experience in a UK school or 12 months working with SEN pupils
- Two professional references (child-related, covering the last two years)
