Kickstart Your Career and Help Shape a Better Environment for Everyone
Want to make a real difference for people and the environment? At the Environment Agency, we’re looking for passionate individuals to join us and help tackle some of the biggest environmental challenges.
Our 12-week Environment & Science Summer Internship Programme starts in June and give you hands-on experience while building skills that matter. This is more than just a standard internship - it’s an opportunity to learn, grow, and explore career pathways that could lead to your next big step.
What you’ll do
Environment & Science roles use scientific evidence to protect and improve the environment and shape real-world decisions. You’ll typically be involved in:
- Using science to solve problems – analysing data and research to improve water quality, reduce pollution, manage flood risk and support climate adaptation.
- Turning evidence into action – translating findings into practical guidance, policy input and operational decisions.
- Monitoring and analysis – collecting, analysing and reporting on environmental data to spot trends and risks.
- Supporting national priorities – contributing to work on climate change, net zero, biodiversity and sustainable development.
- Working with others – collaborating with scientists, engineers, policy teams and external partners.
- Communicating clearly – writing reports and explaining evidence so it can be understood and used.
Wherever you’re based, you’ll be part of a purpose-driven organisation tackling issues that really matter while building skills for your future.
What’s in it for you?
- Invest in your future and the planet. Ethical, career-average pension with around 19% employer contribution — helping you grow your future and support the planet.
- Time to recharge, time to thrive. Enjoy 25 days of annual leave (or equivalent for your work pattern), plus bank holidays, because balance matters.
- Flexibility that works for you. Flexible working where possible - hybrid, part-time or compressed hours.
- Supportive networks that help you thrive. Supportive networks from day one - office buddies, peer groups and mentors to help you settle in, grow and shape your experience.
- Your development, your way. We’ll build a personalised training plan with you and encourage you to be proactive, explore new challenges and make the most of every opportunity.
