Role Overview
Timebeat.app is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to oversee and drive the successful delivery of our software and hardware engineering projects. This role sits at the intersection of technical leadership, people management, and project delivery.
You will be responsible for managing the engineering team, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to a high standard, while maintaining strong technical oversight of our cloud-based software systems and selected hardware initiatives. In addition to software delivery, this role may involve oversight of PCB manufacturing and hardware development projects, including coordination with third-party manufacturers.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Delivery
Lead and manage the engineering team to ensure high-quality, timely delivery of projects. Translate product and business requirements into clear technical plans and milestones. Track progress across multiple projects, managing dependencies, risks, and timelines. Ensure deliverables meet agreed specifications, quality standards, and schedules. Support the Head of Engineering with technical planning, resourcing, and prioritisation.
Software Systems Oversight
Provide technical oversight for backend and systems engineering projects, particularly: Software written in Go (Golang) Cloud- architectures Kubernetes-based deployments NoSQL databases Ensure systems are scalable, reliable, and maintainable. Promote best practices in software development, testing, CI/CD, and documentation. Act as a technical escalation point when complex engineering issues arise.
Team Management & Development
Line-manage engineers, supporting performance, growth, and career development. Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing engineering culture. Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback. Support recruitment and onboarding of new engineering team members as required.
Hardware & Manufacturing Oversight (as applicable)
Oversee hardware-related projects, including PCB design and development timelines. Ensure hardware design efforts align with software and product requirements. Coordinate with third-party manufacturers to arrange PCB production and manufacturing runs. Track manufacturing schedules, risks, and quality considerations. Act as the engineering point of contact between internal teams and external suppliers.
Required Skills & Experience
Proven experience managing software engineering projects and teams. Strong foundation in software development, ideally with hands-on experience in Go. Experience working with cloud-based systems, including: Kubernetes Containerised workloads NoSQL databases Solid understanding of modern software delivery practices and agile methodologies. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously. Strong communication and organisational skills.
Desirable Experience
Prior experience overseeing or coordinating hardware development projects. Familiarity with PCB design, manufacturing processes, or hardware supply chains. Experience working with third-party manufacturers or external engineering partners. Startup or scale-up experience.
