Electronics Engineer

Glasgow (office-first, some flexibility)
Permanent | Exciting early-stage product | Life-saving technology
£35,000 - £45,000 + share options, private healthcare, solid pension, more
This is one of those roles that reminds you why you became an engineer.
Bright Purple is working with a fast-growing technology company developing a genuinely life-saving medical product. They’re now moving from early concept into alpha prototype and detailed design, and they’re looking for an Electronics Engineer who wants real ownership, real impact, and real technical challenge.
You’ll be joining a small, highly capable team of two who span hardware and firmware, at a pivotal point where your design decisions will directly shape the product that goes into manufacture — and ultimately into clinical use.
What you’ll be doing
This is a true end-to-end electronics role. You’ll take ownership of design from concept ideation through to manufacturing, working closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners as the product matures.
On a day-to-day basis you’ll be:
Designing and developing electronics around Arm Cortex-M microcontrollers
Owning schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer
Debugging complex hardware issues using oscilloscopes, signal generators, VNAs and more
Supporting DFM and DFT as designs transition towards manufacture
Getting hands-on in the lab with soldering and rework (iron and hot air)
Contributing to EMC and safety compliance activities
Collaborating closely with firmware, mechanical and external partners
There’s real breadth here — and plenty of space to influence how things are done.
What we’re looking for
You’ll be an experienced Electronics Engineer who’s comfortable taking responsibility and making decisions, rather than just executing someone else’s design.
Essential experience:
Degree in Electronic Engineering (or equivalent practical experience)
At least 2+ years’ industry experience (around 5 years would be ideal)
Strong proficiency with Altium Designer
Experience designing hardware around Cortex-M MCUs
Excellent debug skills and confidence working in the lab
Understanding of EMC and safety compliance
Experience with DFM / DFT
Comfortable with soldering and rework
Hands-on use of lab equipment (oscilloscope, signal generator, VNA)
Nice to have (but not essential):
Medical device development experience
Exposure to ISO 14971 risk management
Familiarity with IEC (phone number removed) and related standards
HF / RF design experience
Tools such as Keysight ADS
Firmware experience, particularly with ST or Nordic Semiconductor
Why this role stands out
You’ll work on a product that genuinely saves lives
You’ll have real ownership, not just a small slice of the design
The team is small, focused, and highly skilled — no layers of bureaucracy
Engineers here consistently talk about how valued and trusted they feel
It’s an exciting growth phase, with tough technical problems to solve
Open to engineers from start-ups or larger organisations
The role is based in a central Glasgow office, ideal for engineers who enjoy collaboration and hands-on development. It’s an office-first environment, with some ad-hoc or occasional WFH flexibility by agreement.
If you’re an Electronics Engineer who wants your work to matter, and you’re excited by taking a product from concept to reality, this is a rare opportunity.
Bright Purple is an equal opportunities employer: we are proud to work with clients who share our values of diversity and inclusion in our industry
