Job Description

Senior Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias)

Salary up to £48,000 + shift supplements

Are you an electrically biased, multi-skilled engineer looking to step into a senior role within a highly automated, technically advanced environment? This is an opportunity to become a key member of an engineering team where your expertise, leadership, and problem-solving skills truly matter.

The Role

You'll be working in a modern, heavily automated site (approx. 80%), maintaining and improving a wide range of machinery and systems. The role offers a balanced mix of planned preventative maintenance and reactive fault-finding, with a strong move towards structured, CMMS-driven maintenance.

This is more than a hands-on role — you'll be trusted to step up, mentor others, and lead when managers are unavailable, making it ideal for an engineer ready to take on greater responsibility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Electrical isolation and fault-finding on automated equipment

  • PLC fault diagnosis (plug-and-play systems)

  • Mechanical maintenance including pneumatics, motors, chains, and conveyors

  • Maintenance of automation equipment such as:

    • Conveyors & motorised rollers

    • Automated pickers and shuttles

    • Packaging, bagging, strapping, and labelling machinery

    • Lifts, printers, and production lines

  • Completing maintenance reports, documentation, and spare-parts records

  • Working with contractors and supporting continuous improvement initiatives

  • Supporting and mentoring junior engineers and technicians

What We're Looking For
  • Multi-skilled engineer (electrical bias preferred, up to 60/40 mech acceptable)

  • Level 3 qualification (NVQ, Diploma, or equivalent)

  • Confident with PLC fault-finding (Siemens experience desirable)

  • Strong understanding of pneumatics, motors, and automated systems

  • Physically fit and comfortable working at height

  • A proactive engineer with leadership potential and a team-first mindset

Shift Pattern & Pay
  • Rotating early, back, and night shifts

  • 1 in 3 Sundays

  • 37.5 hours worked per week (paid allowances applied)

Earnings:

  • Base salary: £43,400+

  • Typical annual earnings with shift supplements: up to £48,000

Why Apply?
  • Work in a technically sophisticated engineering environment

  • Exposure to both legacy and cutting-edge automation

  • Clear opportunity to mentor, lead, and progress your career

  • Strong investment in training, systems, and internal development

  • A role where your experience and initiative are genuinely valued
