Electrical Design Engineer - Protection & Control

This role gives you the chance to work across high-voltage infrastructure projects from early-stage design through to testing and energisation.
You’ll be part of a team delivering protection and control systems on HV and EHV projects across power and renewables, with real involvement in how designs translate into site delivery.

What you’ll be doing
You’ll be responsible for designing protection and control systems across a range of HV projects, including:
* Developing protection schemes, philosophies, and coordination studies
* Producing SLDs, schematics, and wiring diagrams
* Defining interlocking and tripping logic
* Selecting protection relays and IEDs based on project requirements
* Carrying out fault studies and protection grading
* Supporting design through to construction, testing, and commissioning
You’ll also work closely with project teams, site engineers, and stakeholders to ensure designs are practical, compliant, and delivered properly.
You’ll likely be a good fit if you
* Have experience in protection and control design for HV or MV systems
* Understand substation environments (roughly 11kV–400kV)
* Have used tools like ETAP, DIgSILENT, or similar
* Are comfortable producing and reviewing technical drawings and documentation
* Want more exposure beyond design, into delivery and commissioning
Nice to have (not essential)
* Experience with SCADA or automation systems
* Familiarity with IEC 61850 or similar communication protocols
What’s important to know
* Based in Bellshill with travel across Scotland as needed
* Long-term pipeline of projects (not a short-term hire)
* Support for development and progression as you grow in the role
