Job Description
Equans is looking for an Electrical Design Engineer (Decarbonisation & Energy Solutions) to join our team in Manchester. This is a full-time role. On offer is a competitive salary, company vehicle, and benefits package.\n\nThe Electrical Design Engineer (Intermediate) contributes to the design and delivery of low-carbon Electrical systems across a range of retrofit and energy efficiency projects.
Working under the guidance of senior engineers, the role includes developing integrating low-carbon electrical systems such as solar PV, battery storage, LED lighting, and building power infrastructure.\n\nThis role offers the opportunity to build technical expertise, develop project delivery skills, and actively support the UK’s decarbonisation and net-zero goals through innovative engineering solutions.\n\nWhat will you deliver?\n\nElectrical Design & Engineering\n\nAssist with Electrical system designs across all RIBA Stages that includes the design of low-carbon energy solutions, such as power distribution, solar PV, battery storage, LED lighting, and smart controls for the integration of heat pumps, and other energy-efficiency measures typical of sustainable retrofit into commercial, public-sector and mixed-use buildings .\nPractical experience or a keen interest in solar PV design, including ground-mounted systems and building-integrated solutions (BIPV). \nAbility to produce design drawings, schematics and calculations under supervision.\nPractical experience or keen interest in solar PV system design.\nAbility to develop load assessments, lighting design, cable calculations and equipment schedules\nProficient in AutoCAD with willingness to develop strong Revit/BIM capability.\nSupport coordination of BIM and CAD-based design processes. \n\nProject & Technical Support\n\nAssist in preparing technical reports, drawings, specifications, and schedules.\nParticipate in design team meetings, capturing key actions and learning opportunities.\nSupport and assist with risk reviews, design updates, and supplier engagement.\nProvide technical input during procurement and early-stage contractor liaison.\nSupport internal teams with planning and funding application inputs.\nAssist in identifying design risks and contribute to risk mitigation strategies and update the design risk registers. \n\nTeam Development & Collaboration\n\nCollaborate closely with senior engineers for mentoring and guidance.\nParticipate in design workshops and CPD sessions.\nSupport knowledge-sharing within the team and adopt best practices.\nLiaise with the design and project delivery teams to ensure smooth progression into delivery. \n\nWhat can we offer you?\n\nOn offer is a competitive salary, and benefit package, which includes;\n\n24 days annual leave (+ public holidays)\nLife Cover equivalent to 1.5 times annual salary\nEmployee discount shopping schemes on major brands and retailers\nGym membership discounts \nCycle to work scheme \nHoliday purchase scheme\n2 corporate social responsibility days per year\nBroad range of learning opportunities, such as professional qualifications, collective/individual training, and personalized support programmes\nAttractive Employee Referral Rewards Scheme\nAccess to our growing employee networks\n24/7 Employee Assistance Program and access to mental wellbeing app \n\nWho are you?\n\nExperience:\n\nExperience in electrical services design, typically gained over several years\nPrevious participation in multidisciplinary project teams.\nExposure to retrofit, decarbonisation, or low-carbon projects \nSolid understanding of Electrical systems.\nAwareness of low-carbon technologies (heat pumps, BMS, district heating).\nBasic knowledge of relevant standards e.g., CIBSE, PAS 2035, MCS, Building Safety Act, and UK building regulations.\nCompetent with BIM/CAD tools and energy modelling software. \n\nWho are we?\n\nIn the UK & Ireland, Equans is a provider of sustainable facilities management and regeneration, and cutting-edge energy and digital services.
