Job Description
My client a Global Technology Pioneer is looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer for a years long project. \n\nThe successful candidate will be responsible for the design, specification and testing approval of off shore electrical equipment, which is produced by my client for naval customers. Duties will include the production of detailed technical specifications, drawings and test procedures for electrical /control systems, in accordance with contract specifications and company procedures.\n\nKey Accountabilities\n\nPrepare electrical schematics and block cable diagrams using 2D CAD systems, as well as specialist electrical design software (e.g., Auto-CAD Electrical, EPLAN, WSCAD etc.)\nPrepare and maintain technical specifications, commissioning and system test procedures for marine electrical equipment.\nProvide technical support to internal and external customers as required.\nAssist in the review, co-ordination and approval of technical documentation received from suppliers and customers (particularly with respect to motors, variable speed drives and the design / layout of control panels and operator control stations).\nProvide technical support to tender activities including estimating, specification development and bid compliance review.\nCarry out electrical calculations associated with equipment sizing, harmonic emissions and arc flash electrical safety assessments.\nReview configuration of motor variable speed drive control systems.\nIdentify and develop R&D and Continuous Improvement opportunities.\nBe self-motivated, prepared to use their own initiative and able to work independently, or work effectively as part of a multi disciplined team.\nInvestigate Product Safety and Technical problems using structured problem-solving techniques.\nManage supplier interfaces and provide technical assistance / test result approval to suppliers.\nOther reasonable technical tasks as deemed appropriate to meet the needs of the business.Key Experiences and Qualifications\n\nB.Eng./B.Sc.
in either Electrical Engineering/Control Engineering, or equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience.\nCompetent user of a recognised electrical CAD package (AutoCAD, EPLAN, etc.) in the production of electrical drawings and schematics.\nCreation of control panel layout drawings and Engineering Bills of Materials.\nGood understanding of fundamental electrical and mechanical principles, with experience of practical engineering applications intended for use in a marine environment, or related industries.\nExperience of working in a highly regulated industry. \n\n Functional/Technical Competencies and Levels\n\nKnowledge of AC induction motor / PM motor control systems and variable speed drive technologies.\nKnowledge of EMC and harmonic emission control practices.\nKnowledge of design verification and validation processes to ensure equipment complies with customer requirements.\nBasic knowledge of electrical equipment reliability and safety control mechanisms and how these are verified using FMECA, HAZOP and ARM analysis tools.\nExcellent written & verbal communications\nOperation of 2D CAD systems\nConfiguration control using data management systems\nKnowledge of the engineering change / version control process.
