Job Description
Electrical Components Engineer (HVAC & HVDC)
Contract Duration: 1 July 2026 – 31 January 2027
Hours: 40 per week (8 hours/day)
Location: London, Swindon and Hybrid
IR35 Status: Outside IR35
Are you Electrical Components Engineer looking to work for an international offshore wind developer, able to support the engineering and delivery of major onshore and offshore electrical infrastructure?
This role could be for you, as will be focused on HVAC and HVDC substation components and plays a key part across development, construction, and operational phases of large‑scale energy projects.
Key Responsibilities
Provide specialist technical expertise in HVAC/HVDC electrical components, including: switchgear, control & protection, metering, transformers, reactors, LV systems, HVDC components and associated grid‑connected equipment. Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) in cases of component failures. Prepare and review technical documentation, supporting tenders, contracts and procurement. Oversee electrical related works on construction sites, ensuring technical compliance and quality. Act as technical lead in supplier/product prequalification and perform factory audits. Support development and application of internal standards, regulations, norms, and best practices. Produce structured project reporting and contribute to process and procedure development. Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, supporting wider electrical systems including offshore/onshore substations, foundations and SCADA. Ensure robust through life design and technical performance of electrical components. Develop detailed specifications, manage TQ clarifications, and ensure contractor compliance. Maintain strong focus on safety‑by‑design and through‑life asset performance. Support procurement and project management of electrical component packages. Coordinate interfaces with other major construction packages such as substations and foundations.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or related field. Several years of experience as an electrical component specialist. Strong expertise in rating, design and testing of electrical components; ideally gained with a manufacturer or developer. Experience writing technical specifications and conducting technical negotiations. Fluent English skills.
Contract Details
This role begins in July 2026 as an initial six‑month contract, with the potential for extension through the full project duration.
